The Berea Fire Department is led by Fire Chief Ted Novak, who has served the department since 1979. Assistant Fire Chief Dan LaRocco heads the fire prevention bureau as well as all fire investigations, and has also served the department since 1979. Captains Tom Donnelly, Jim Clancy and Greg Lobas, along with Lieutenants William Eisenhardt, Kevin Kennedy and Mark Kaufhold make up the remaining members of the Berea Fire Department command staff.

All members of the Berea Fire Department are trained to the level of HazMat First Responder. Six members of the department also hold key positions with the Southwest Emergency Response Team (S.E.R.T.), a regional HazMat and Technical Rescue team comprised of members of 19 area Fire Departments. Nineteen of our firefighters are trained to the level of Paramedic with numerous members also certified in Basic Trauma Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. The Fire Prevention Bureau, headed by Assistant Fire Chief Dan LaRocco, includes our three shift Lieutenants who are all Fire Safety Inspectors. Various members of the department are also trained in Arson Investigation and participate as medics with the Southwest Enforcement Bureau, the regional Police Special Forces Team.
